Downtown Harrisonburg had an unexpected visitor Thursday night.

A bear was spotted behind the L & S Diner Diner on Liberty Street. Police say it was the same bear that was seen at Purcell Park earlier in the week.

Police blocked the area as spectators tried to get a glimpse.

The bear was eventually tranquilized by an official from the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.

The bear will be analyzed for illnesses and then released back into the wild.
