U.S. Representative Bob Goodlatte has announced federal funding to support a local Harrisonburg Community Health Center. HCHC will receive more than $500,000 dollars a year for the next three years.

This center serves for primary health care for children and families in the Harrisonburg area. Since opening, the health center has seen more than 1,000 patients. This is still not enough in comparison to the demands of the community.

Executive Director Christopher Nye hopes to bring more people on board with the additional funding. He says this type of federal funding is an honor.

"We were one of 42 awards, nationally, which is very exciting. And I want to say that you can not win this type of award without it being a community effort. And this particular initiative was just that," says Nye.

The center opened in January 2008 and hopes to move in to a larger facility by October.
