Two men have been charged for breaking and entering at a Waynesboro apartment Tuesday morning.
Waynesboro Police arrested 21-one-year-old Steven D. Shiflett and 19-year-old Justin T. Cash Tuesday.
Police say the two men cut a window screen and broke the glass to get into an apartment at the Brandon Ladd Apartments. The men are accused of stealing a Play Station 2, several games for the system, more than 100 DVDs, two 12-packs of beer and a 380 semi-automatic handgun from the apartment.
The victim originally said he didn't have any idea of who might have broken in, but he later thought of someone and he followed up on his idea. When the victim arrived at a home in the 100 block of James Avenue, police say he spotted several DVDs and games in the bed of a pick-up truck.
One suspect fled on foot and the police captured him near Tenth Street.
Police searched the James Avenue home for evidence, but they found semi-automatic handgun near some railroad tracks, where the suspect is believed to have hidden it as well as another firearm.
Police say the second firearm is one of two World War II-era guns that were stolen from a home in the 1800 block of West Main Street on either August 1 or 2.
Another search of a house in the 1700 block of Talbot Place produced the second World War II gun.
Shiflett and Cash face charges of grand larceny and breaking and entering. Cash also is charged with felony theft of a firearm.
Police say charges are pending for the break in on West Main Street.
