Craigsville mom, Lyn Obetz was facing up to a year in prison if convicted of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, time she was willing to do for her autistic son Jimmy.
"I was ready to go to jail," says Obetz. "My only thought is the protection of my boys."
But after brief discussions in Augusta County's Juvenile District Court, charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor were dropped by Augusta County Schools.
"School systems want to teach responsibility but in order to do that you have to be responsible and this was in effect about as irresponsible as you can get," says Obetz.
The school system wants each child to attend class every day. Obetz has been keeping her son Jimmy home each Wednesday because of a doctor's order due to Jimmy's autistic behaviors.
"His anxiety, his stress, his sensitivity," says Obetz. "It would all escalate with him being forced to go back to school on Wednesday."
Although the result was positive, the alleged charge could have lasting effects if Obetz gets back into the workforce.
"Even though it was dismissed," says Obetz. "I was still charged. There was a question whether or not I was contributing to the delinquency of a minor."
The school district can file a child in need of supervision suite if they believe it to be necessary. Possibly putting this same case back in front of the judge.
