The Fishersville Small Area Plan is in it's second year, but it has recently run into some problems. Density issues in the plan are conflicting with the overall Augusta County agenda.

Board of Supervisors member Wendell Coleman says, "The overall plan calls for increased density. The Fishersville Small Area Plan is coming in and actually recommending that we reduce the density."

Coleman says running into planning problems is normal, but density is a new issue that is not typically discussed.

He asks, "On an acre of land, how many dwellings would you actually allow on a given parcel of land?"

The board was in session Wednesday to discuss whether or not they are going to amend the overall comprehensive plan of Augusta County to incorporate the new standards set by the Fishersville Small Area Plan.

The Fishersville residents that spoke at the hearing all agreed. They believe the three-to-four-units-per-acre standard set by the small area plan is the right number and the Augusta County Comprehensive plan should be revised.

Coleman is hoping a compromise can be reached.

He says, "I feel like we need to find some compromise, some middle of the road between what the overall citizens of Augusta County want compared to what the people that actually live and work in the Fishersville community itself want."

The issue has been tabled until another meeting in September.
