The campus of James Madison University has issued a serious warning for students planning to use the SafeRides van this weekend. The SafeRides program gives rides to students who've had too much to drink.

On Friday, a window flag from one of their vehicles was stolen. Campus officials say there's a chance that someone may try to impersonate a SafeRides volunteer.

However, there are ways students can tell if the driver is actually with SafeRides or is an impersonator.

"Only expect SafeRides to show up after they've been called. The second thing that SafeRides does to identify their personnel is that they wear t-shirts identifying themselves, and finally the last thing, SafeRides personnel always travel in twos," say JMU media relations manager, Bill Wyatt.

A magnetic sign was also stolen from a SafeRides vehicle in April 2007.

1. The program is written SafeRides 2. They do not use a van, but a series of cars 3. The window flag was not taken on Friday, but last weekend, as the JMU timely notice indicates.
