Virginia State Police say a Grottoes man had a seizure while driving on Route 340, causing an accident just before Noon Monday.
Alan Parrish was driving northbound toward Grottoes when police say he drifted into the left lane and crashed into an oncoming van.
The crash occurred near the intersection of Route 340 and Jollett Drive. Parrish and the driver of the van were taken to Augusta Medical Center for treatment.
"If these two drivers had not have had their seat belt on, both of them certainly would have been killed in this accident," says Virginia State Trooper K. L. Hyden.
Officials at AMC say the van driver has been released. State police charged Parrish with reckless driving and they estimate the total damage to the two vehicles at about $19,000.
