Buckle up or pay up... Click it or ticket...
Both catchy phrases to urge you to use your seat belt when behind the wheel.
With a grant from the Department of Motor Vehicles, the Augusta County Sheriff's office and surrounding localities increased their patrols on the road Monday as part of the national Click It or Ticket campaign.
Not wearing a seat belt is a secondary offense, but officers are looking for other traffic violations as well.
"You never know when it is going to happen a vehicle comes across that solid line and hits you head on, you're just like a missile going out that window if your not restrained in your vehicle," says Sergeant James Sellers.
Not wearing your seat belt carries a civil fine of $25.
Most area localities including Rockingham and Waynesboro will be patrolling the streets from now until June 4.
