The Staunton-Augusta Rescue Squad invited residents around the county to enjoy the fall foliage at Gypsy Hill Park as part of their first Family Fun Day.

The squad took the time to show family and friends their rescue vehicles and the equipment they use on emergency calls.

Donna Hurst says children enjoyed live music and rescue demonstrations.

She says, "Some of the children rode on our new stretcher. We have new power stretchers. It lifts up and down and it's power operated. We did have some little teddy bears that they were able to put band-aides on and bandages and slings."

Hurst says admission was free, but concessions were not. All proceeds from the event go straight to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.

The rescue squad members have somewhat soured my opinion of them. They are arrogant and unfriendly at every other time, unless they want money for something. They leave you feeling ignored any other time.
