Voter registration is over for Virginians and the most recent numbers are showing big jumps in the number of voters in Augusta County.
As of Tuesday, Augusta County has around 42,000 registered voters, which is a ten-percent increase from the last election. According to the county registrar's office, 2,000 of those voters are new.
The registrar's office also says absentee votes are up. So far, nearly 200 people have voted by absentee ballot and around 700 ballots have been mailed out.
General Registrar of Augusta County, Brandi Lilly, says, "This is just unprecedented. I think for any election in Virginia as far back as anyone can remember, the voter registration and absentee voter registration are just unprecedented figures."
Fishersville, Stuarts Draft, and Verona saw the highest number of registered voters in the county.
