The nationwide Tents of Hope project is a one-year campaign where communities can gather in support of Darfur. Tents have been traveling about the country and Eastern Mennonite University was chosen to host one on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Michelle Kennel, co-leader of the EMU Peace Fellowship Club, says that there has been a lot of response from the EMU community. That response includes two students who just returned from spending a summer in Sudan, which makes the issue hit harder to home.

Kennel says, "As a symbol of coming together, this tent is really significant in just not allowing us to be complacent in our daily lives but to continue to remember the people out there in the world that are just struggling, and to remember that we're connected to them as human beings."

All Tents of Hope activities are leading up to a national event in Washington D.C. that hopes to draw even more attention to the Darfur region.
