Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Newt Gingrich made a trip to the Valley Saturday.

Gingrich was in Fishersville for a family bar-b-que and fundraiser for Republican Congressman Bob Goodlatte. The event took place at the Viette Gardens.

Gingrich weighed in on the current economic crisis as well as the direction he believes the country will go this coming election.

He says, "I think this country is fed up with both parties. I think the Republicans had better make clear they are not for Socialism, they're not for the kind of big government ideas we are seeing and I think this is a moment that overwhelmingly the American people want smaller government and we are about to see an election where the advocates of big government, big corruption, and big special interest are going to win."

More than 400 people attended the event.
