AAA has named this week Teen Safe Driving Week. The automobile club released a survey Monday that finds most parents aren't completely aware of the risks of younger teens riding in the car.
According to AAA, crash risks increase significantly when passengers as young as 12 years old enter the car. This is a fact AAA says many parents don't acknowledge.
Martha Meade, a spokeswoman for AAA, says it's also important to keep a close eye on younger drivers.
Meade says, "Just because an older teenager has a friend that's willing to give a youngster a ride to the movies doesn't mean that that driver is mature enough to be responsible or has been demonstrating responsible behaviors behind the wheel."
AAA suggests parents make an agreement with teen drivers on when and how often they drive, make sure they get lots of supervised practice, and help them recognize dangerous driving conditions.
