A local free taxi service is feeling pressure from a new ordinance in Harrisonburg.
Marty Solomon runs a free local taxi service to help keep drunk drivers off the road. Most of his callers are students at James Madison University who are unable to drive after consuming alcohol.
Now he's facing pressure from the Harrisonburg City Council. Solomon approached the council last month after he was allegedly harassed by local police.
The answer to his complaint was not exactly what Solomon had in mind as a new taxi ordinance went through its first reading Tuesday night. The ordinance would take Solomon's service off the road.
The ordinance states that it is unlawful for any person to use the terms "taxi," "taxicab," "cab," or any other pronunciation or spelling of the word in any advertisement, sign, or trade name unless it is associated with a licensed company.
Still, Solomon says that he will not stop serving the community and he will continue to offer his service to many JMU students.

I wonder is they would still harrass him if he claimed to be a chauffer service? He is providing a good benefit to the community and he gets hassled for it.
