The Harrisonburg Police Department is getting help from jurisdictions across the state and nation on a weekend shooting.

Investigators have been working around the clock since 3 a.m. Sunday when Reginald "Shay" Nicholson was shot in the head. The incident took place outside a party in the Hunter's Ridge Apartment Complex in Harrisonburg. Nicholson remains in critical condition at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

Lt. Kurt Boshart of the Harrisonburg Police Department says they're getting helping from state-wide jurisdictions as well as from federal investigators on the case. He says the assistance has been beneficial.

"And we feel very confident that we will be able to make an arrest in this case. We're working hard. We aren't going to let up," says Boshart."

While investigators work constantly on leads, Boshart wants the public to remain aware that this is a very serious crime.

He says, "We did have a shooting. We have a young man who's laying in the hospital with a bullet wound, and like I said, I don't want to sugar coat this. We do have a shooter that is out on the loose."

James Madison University and HPD have been getting phone calls from parents of students in the area expressing their concern. Boshart's best advice to parents is to talk to their children about this situation and learn from it.

"And if there are any parents out there who would hear this message, reiterate to their children, to their kids, that they need to be taking safety first," says Boshart.
