A company that does contracting work with the Invista plant in Waynesboro is laying off 132 employees. Officials with the Mundy Companies announced the layoffs Friday.
Earlier this year, Mundy temporarily reduced 55 jobs due to production cuts at Invista, but those temporary cuts are now permanent. Mundy officials also announced 77 more workers are being let go. Workers with the Mundy Companies do maintenance and production work at several plants in Virginia and West Virginia.
In a statement, Ronnie Blackburn, a site manager for Mundy Companies, says, "We have noticed in the last couple weeks, production requests have decreased. We were at 336 employees before the layoffs. We will have 204 by the end of the year."
Company officials say the laid off workers may be able to find work at other plants with which Mundy works.
A human resources manager with Mundy Companies says the employees would be laid off between now and the end of the month.
TV-3 tried to contact Invista Friday evening, but we were not able to get a response.
The Mundy Companies work with other nationwide companies such as DuPont and Goodyear.
A company in Harrisonburg is also announcing layoffs. A site manager at Transprint USA has confirmed that the company has made 32 layoffs at its Harrisonburg facility. Transprint offers engraving, printing, and finishing services.
