Cutting edge technology is already being tested in Harrisonburg.
The city will be the first site in the country to test a new generation of the Internet called IPV6.
The technology will become the new standard for Internet around the world.
It boasts fast download speeds and mobile security.
As the project draws closer to completion, officials say Harrisonburg residents and businesses will have access to the fastest technology available.
"Since this is the first location in the united states this will be the vision of what the future of the Internet will look like and the people who are on the Internet here will see and be part of the first project," said Mark Bayliss founder of World Airwaves.
They say being the test ground for the new technology will help bring new jobs to the area.
