Democratic gubernatorial candidate Brian Moran spoke Sunday in Waynesboro about the importance of keeping the Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents open.

Republican Sen. Emmett Hanger and Republican Dels. Steve Landes and Chris Saxman have all pushed hard for a proposal to prevent the closing of the CCCA to be included in the House version of the budget. Only time will tell whether it's added to the Senate version.

Gov. Tim Kaine proposed closing the Center for at-risk youths in his budget recommendations. However, Moran said it's essential that services like these remain available.

He says, "This is a necessary service. These are difficult budget times, and they're trying to do the best with less, but this is one of those critical services we'd like to try and keep open for this area."

Moran faces Former Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe and Sen. Creigh Deeds in a race for the Democratic nomination. Former Attorney General Bob McDonnell is uncontested for the Republican nomination.
