Date Set for Harrisonburg Murder Trial

The murder case of Zackery Turner is moving forward. He is accused of shooting and killing former R. E. Lee football standout Reginald "Shay" Nicholson in November at an off-campus student housing complex in Harrisonburg.

A grand jury in Rockingham County decided Tuesday there is sufficient evidence to try four of the men arrested in the case.

First, Turner faces a first degree murder charge and two firearms charges in connection with the November shooting.

A Rockingham County judge has scheduled a trial on all of those charges for May 18. Prosecutor Marsha Garst says the trial is expected to last the entire week.

There are four other men who are charged in this case.

Jahmain Faqiri, Gregory Baker, and Ricky Parrish are still being held without bond at the Rockingham County Jail. All three had court appearances Tuesday.

Baker's attorney was not present, so their cases were delayed until February 26. The prosecutor in their cases, Louis Nagy, says he's seeking to have all three tried at once. They all face gang and assault charges. Faqiri also faces a firearms charge.

Another man charged in the case, Demonds Parrish, remains free on bond. He testified against Zackery Turner at a hearing on February 3. His case has been put off until April 21.
