The Waynesboro Police Department says it is confident it will find the man responsible for a robbery at a Waynesboro SunTrust Bank.

"Certainly adding the explosive or the potential for explosives ups the ante for us," says Sgt. Kelly Walker, of the Waynesboro Police Department.

Walker is relieved that the bomb threat was fake, the case the robber was carrying did not hold a real explosive.

Tuesday morning, with customers back in the bank and the police tape down, Walker feels he and his team have the evidence they need to move forward.

"We've got evidence from inside the bank, evidence from outside the bank," says Walker.

He's talking about trace evidence, such as hair samples, DNA, and fingerprints. However, these aren't the only things the officers are looking at for a successful investigation.

"People started calling in before we even cleared the scene you know, giving us names," adds Walker.

While every investigation is important, the bomb threat that launched this one, even though the bomb turned out to be fake, hits harder, which makes Walker even more protective of his community.

"Somebody said yesterday, 'Did he display a gun?' And I said, 'Why did he need a gun? He had one of the things people fear the most.' So, bombs are one of the most indiscriminate killers out there," comments Walker.

The staff that was on shift at the SunTrust Bank during the robbery was given the day off Tuesday to recover from the incident.
