There has been a lot of discussion recently over proposed cuts at the Virginia Department of Transportation.
It turns out that some of the information has been misunderstood. A VDOT official says the idea of reducing snow removal standards for less-traveled roads is just a long-term option.
It is not an option currently under consideration.
Britt Drewes of VDOT says, "But what we are talking about in addressing a nearly $3 billion reduction, does not, as of today it does not include snow removal."
However, closing most interstate rest areas is in the current proposal.
