A water main that sprang a leak early Monday morning along Route 42 has been repaired, and water once again flows through the main at about five million gallons a day.
A thick metal band, that weighs several hundred pounds, was placed over the baseball sized hole. Crews will spend a day or two filling in and repairing the road. Currently one northbound lane next to the hole on Route 42 is closed.
No residences or businesses were without water due to the break. Reserve tanks were able to handle the shortage while repairs were underway.
When the main burst, water was shooting out of the hole at about 200 pounds per square inch. Water gushed from the asphalt and spread under the road, damaging it further north of where main broke.
