A crash in Page county left members of the community shaken and sent two people in the hospital Sunday evening. One of the injured was a Vriginia State Police officer.

While police have not yet confirmed the details about the crash that took place around 3:30 p.m. on Route 211, one resident says reckless driving is the cause of the crash. The crash occured during a police pursuit of a motorcycle.

Lisa Waters, an eyewitness, said, "Dad and I were sitting inside and we heard a loud boom and we came outside and the cop car was on fire. I grabbed the phone and called 911 and told them that the vehicle was on fire and they needed to come as quick at they could."

Waters was visiting her father, and said officers quickly arrived on the scene after the accident. Officers pursued the cyclist who ran away from the scene.

"We heard two shots fired behind the trailer but that's all we heard. Never seen anybody come out from back there. But the cop come running right from there and down the field like it was nothing," says Waters.

Waters says the police car was severely damaged and the motorcycle was left in pieces.

"They said that he was clocked at 120 as soon as he came around that turn back there," she said.

She says she wasn't surprised at how fast the motorcycle was going. She says that recklessness on the highway is something she's used to now.

Waters adds, "They go up and down this mountain like there's no tomorrow. They don't care about the speed. They don't care how fast they're going.

After witnessing the accident Sunday, Waters now believes it's important to be careful.

"Maybe it will open a couple people's eyes and show them you really need to slow down, especially on Father's Day. That could have been somebody's father in that cop car," says Waters.

Eyewitnesses say that the trooper on the scene broke his back. While police would not confirm the details, they did say that the officer was taken to the hospital and is being treated for his injuries.

An investigation into the crash will continue into late Sunday evening.

Sarah: I never said that i either agreed or disagreed w/ what Jennifer posted. I commended her for being honest enough to put her name w/ what she believes is another side of the story. So..be a little more careful Sarah when accusing people...do some research first. (Or in this case...simply READ.) ..and don't be a puppet..believing everything that you read "just because it is in a newspaper". Be smart enough to form your own opinion for once.

I was sitting in the house when we heard the noise and came running out and called 911 from the porch. I saw the car on fire, I saw the police officer run behind the trailers across from my parents house, I seen them take the trooper out of the car and being taken to the hosipial. Intill you are faced with something like that, I think you really need to keep your comments to yourself and have some respect for the ones that hold that position to make sure it's safe!!!

Sarah & Toby...how about finding out the factual information prior to posting a comment. Guess what...troopers have a dash mounted camera. Again, why are you defending motorcycles?? If you dial 911 are you going to judge a trooper/deputy/town officer knocking at yoru door because he ENFORCED the Virginia State Law of speeding? Again, remind me....are motorcycles above the law? Let's grow up and learn to stop the "he said/she said" and FOLLOW THE LAW.
