For the second time this year, there has been a drowning in Frederick County. A 14-year-old boy drowned at Sherando Park Lake Thursday evening.
Now a fire and rescue company wants to give you and your family some tips to follow if you're headed to the water this summer.
On Thursday, Yolanda Cogswell watched in horror as the boy sank beneath the water of the river at Sherando Park in Stephens City. She says the teen never resurfaced.
It took rescue crews more than an hour to locate the teen's body under the water and they found him only feet away from the shoreline.
Warren County Fire and Rescue Capt. Raymond Cross says people need to do only what their bodies can handle when swimming.
He says, "Know your limitations. If you start to feel fatigued, get out of the water. Always swim with a buddy, never swim by yourself."
The teen's identity has not been released.
In April, 11-year-old Jorge Castro was reported missing after he went swimming in the Potomac River. His body was found May 5.
