Enjoy the Fourth of July celebration at Gypsy Hill Park in Staunton this year, because it might not happen next year.
Organizers of the event say they will have to scale down or cancel the 2010 event because of a $13,000 cut in funding from the city of Staunton.
The event, called "America's Birthday Celebration," has been partially funded by the city since 1994.
President of the committee in charge of the celebration, Terri Corey, said this year's event cost $60,000.
"Next year is going to be really tight. We are having a meeting at the end of July to see whether or not this is going to go on or not next year, and if it is, it's going to be scaled back really really big time unless we can find some sponsors," says Corey.
Corey says if they hold the event next year, they'll consider cutting back on entertainment by hiring more local bands.

We should have been supporting our local bands anyway. I fear the day we do not go the extra mile to celebrate the 4th. It is our Independance Day. Although I believe adding taps at the end of the night would be of great benefit (I remember the feeling of awe listening to taps and watching the flag being lowered over the bandstand after the Statlers had sang). Our freedom came with a great price and this should be remembered. Parades, bands, fireworks, and the smell of hotdogs....God Bless America!!!!
Whatever happened to INDEPENDENCE DAY?
lets skip the parade. it's a joke
