The City of Staunton had its famous July 4 celebrations all day long Saturday. All the events took place at Gypsy Hill Park.
There were vendors, lots of good eating and entertainment throughout the day.
Organizers of the July 4 celebrations said it was the largest crowd they had seen in years.
Committee members believe more people are celebrating America's birthday in the Valley because of the economic slow down.
John Frenich, with the Concession Committee for the celebrations, says, "Let me tell you. It seems like there's been a lot more people this year. Right after the car parade this morning, it was full and it was hard to walk through there."
The fireworks celebration took place around dusk.
