While thousands of people entered a lottery to attend the service, not everyone was watching Michael Jackson's memorial Tuesday.

We checked around the Valley to see what people were, or weren't, doing for the service.

Restaurant workers and store owners around Harrisonburg had mixed emotions about it. Several people just didn't seem interested in tuning in, but that didn't stop one restaurant manager from watching the event.

Jack Brown's Manager Barb Pedeville says it's something she wouldn't miss.

"I was just thinking, 'Oh my God, it's one o'clock. I have to put it on. I want to see it. I want everybody to see it,'" says Pedeville.

However, the customers didn't all feel the same way. Deb Booth says she's over all the hoopla.

"I was clueless it was on, that's how big an impact it had on me," says Booth.

She thinks that all the Michael Jackson coverage is unnecessary.

"It's done, he's done, let him go in peace. It seems like an awful lot of money and time is being spent on somebody that isn't even around to benefit from it anymore," says Booth.

David Coffman stopped in Jack Brown's for lunch and says, while he doesn't mind all the coverage, he won't go out of his way to get it.

"Not too much. I just catch the highlights and that's about all, in the news," says Coffman.

Pedeville says friends and customers haven't mentioned watching the memorial.

"I haven't heard anybody say it, which is really sad," says Pedeville.

She says she think this is an important event in history and hopes people don't overlook it.

"Cause I think that he's an icon, and it's something that you will always remember and wish you would have watched it," says Pedeville.

Both Pedeville and Booth say they're not sure if it's the area, or even local demographics, but they don't see the same interest in the Valley as they have in other cities.
