Thursday night, a decision was handed down by the Rockingham County Board of Zoning Appeals on the controversy, and agreed keep strangers out of Massanutten homes.

It was a three to two vote by the board, which said short-term renters are no longer allowed in the quiet Massanutten community.

The controversy began months ago when the County Zoning Administrator ruled that short-term rentals in single family homes constituted a zoning violation.

The issue was taken up by the board last month, but they needed more time to look over the issue.

Folks on both sides have been vocal for months, Thursday night we spoke with one homeowner who rents her home out, and feels defeated by the decision. She wishes to stay anonymous, but this is what she had to say. "The appeal process, the board members were a two to three vote, so if they didn't have a unanimous decision, obviously the zoning is vague."

This ruling most likely will be appealed to the State Supreme Court.

The county estimates that some 50 homeowners are involved with renting out their homes, and therefore are affected by this decision.
