The jury in a murder trial in Shenandoah County has convicted a man of killing his daughter's boyfriend.
The trial for 48-year-old Jody Bradley began Tuesday. The jury went into deliberation at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Deliberations continued all day Thursday before the verdict for second degree murder was delivered.
Bradley was charged with killing his daughter's boyfriend, 16-year-old Brendon Barker.
After the verdict was read, the jury met for three more hours to decide which sentence to recommend. They came back with nine years for the second-degree murder charge and three years for the charge of using a firearm in commission of murder.
"Whether it's two years or two life sentences, it doesn't make a difference to me," says Colin Christensen, a friend of Barker. "It's not going to bring Brendon back. Surely nine years won't bring Brendon back, but nine years does not fit the crime that he did upon my friend."

I heard the argument that he thought it was just an intruder which got him the 2nd degree. I don’t see how anyone bought that argument. He shot someone in the face at close range and he didn’t recognize it was someone he knew and threatened to shoot. It is sad that he heartlessly executed a child. He is not a victim or hero. He alone is responsible for his actions.
The travesty here is that Bradley had to go to trial. The man shot and killed a person trespassing on his property even after a no trespassing court order had been issued. If that kid was pushing drugs on Bradley's daughter, he had a right to defend his family, in his home, at whatever lethality was necessary. The victim here is Bradley, not that punk kid. One less drug pusher/user that the tax payers won't have to deal with. It's time that the justice system stops punishing the victim and starts focusing on the criminal.
give Jodys side of the story if im not mistaken. He advised the police he was shooting and intruder. Thats a bunch of BULL! He need who it was, he knew what he was doing, and he had made threats before and knew what would happen. If you were shooting and intruder would you go for the head??? Most people just blind shoot because they fear there life! I dont think a 16 year old boy was much of challenge. So next time you decide to post a comment like the one you did I think you to stop and think before you write something heartless and hurt others in the process. His mother and girlfriend can see this!
