Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell spent Tuesday touring the Valley, including one stop at the Volunteer Farms in Woodstock.
Last year, the farms donated 35 tons of fresh vegetables to the Blue Ridge Area Food bank.
McDonnell says his visit was to promote the private sector's efforts in helping the less fortunate.
"It's something I believe very strongly that we need to be able to promote a lot more of. When you have the bully pulpit at the governor or the attorney general, I want to see the private sector much more engaged, the faith community, the food banks, all those entities that take care of people and do it so efficiently. We got to do everything we can to promote them," says McDonnell.
The Volunteer Farms have two locations at this time, but the board is currently raising funds to open a third farm in Culpeper.
