Local businesses are getting a morale boost when it comes to their economic outlook.

Wade Luhn sees the potential for business in downtown Staunton, and he says there are plenty of opportunities for restaurants like his to thrive.

He says, "This is such a bountiful region. That's what we are trying to feature in our restaurant."

Luhn co-owns the Mockingbird restaurant, which is not only a place to eat, but is also one of the many places in downtown Staunton featuring arts and entertainment.

He adds, "It's not just the western part of the state that no one ever visits. It's really a regional attraction."

Gov. Tim Kaine made a stop in the Mockingbird Thursday afternoon.

Kaine says, "I think using art as a drawing card for Staunton is great."

He says business owners like Luhn have the right idea when it comes to attracting customers from all over and igniting the economy.

Kaine adds, "There is just a real synergy here that makes it an attractive locality. It will be good for small businesses."

Kaine says Virginia is once again one of the best places to do business, and he thinks Staunton and other locales are setting themselves up nicely for the future.

"As the economy starts to improve, and we are starting to see it improve, I think Virginia is in a great spot," adds Kaine. "That's what Forbes and CNBC said that we're as positioned to come out of the recession strong as anyone."

While in Staunton, Kaine also talked about funding for an arts coalition to help artists in the city.
