A small town in Virginia is coming together to remember a soldier who lost his life in the deadliest attack on U.S. troops in Afghanistan in more than a year.
Spc. Stephen Mace died along with seven others in an attack at a U.S. outpost Sunday.
Mace's family in Purcellville is remembering him for his passion for life.
They last saw him in August when he was home on leave.
The town's mayor ordered the flags in the area to be flown at half staff in honor of the fallen soldier. Mace is the first town resident to die in the fighting in Afghanistan.
Mace's parents, Larry and Deb Mace, live just west of Winchester.
