Hundreds waited at an airport near the nation's capital over the weekend to welcome home a fallen soldier.
On Sunday, people lined the streets for 13 miles from Leesburg Airport to Purcellville in a display of support for Army Spc. Stephan Mace.
Mace was one of eight soldiers killed October 3 in the deadliest battle of the year for American troops in Afghanistan.
Ashburn resident Randy Desteuben says, "It's awesome. We don't know this gentleman. We just thought it was proper for us to come out here."
Mace's mother said she wanted to see him home one last time. His grandmother said he would have been proud of, and deeply honored, by his hometown's support.
Mace was 21.
