One Virginia Democrat wants the detention facility at Guantanamo bay shut down and some of the detainees brought to secure east coast locations.
That would include Quantico Marine Corps base in Virginia.
Representative james moran says he wants congress to stop funding operation of the facility. He says funding the operations of the center is quote, "setting us back in our global war on terrorism."
Moran wants to see detainees charged or released. If they're charged, they would be brought to the U.S.
Quantico and the brig at the Charleston Naval Base are among military facilities where the detainees could be brought.
Both of those are in the jurisdiction of the Richmond based Fourth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
Republicans criticized the plan.
