Tourism in the Valley is enough of a revenue maker, the Virginia Tourism Corporation came to Harrisonburg and gave an already successful industry some advice.
The VTC calls it the help desk.
Marketing experts came to Harrisonburg and met one-on-one with area tourism leaders. They gave guidance ranging over promotions, customer service and research.
Officials say Harrisonburg is a reflection of a successful state wide industry.
"Tourism is a $19.2 billion industry in the state of Virginia. Over 210,000 jobs are created as a result of tourism activity. And if you take the tourism money, you could build a road all the way from Harrisonburg to Denver Colorado. So that's the impact of tourism, it's very significant," says Rita McClenny of the VTC.
Locally, Harrisonburg tourism has generated nearly $4 million in state taxes, and $3.5 million in local taxes.
