The Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents was forced to move patients to the campus of Western State Hospital after the CCCA's basement flooded with up to six feet of water Thursday.
Officials from Western State say, thanks to an emergency preparedness plan, the evacuation was smooth and all of the patients are safe at an unoccupied building on campus.
Ellen Harrison, from Western State Hospital, says, "We have been working very proactively with the CCCA to get the children settled, and to get them feeling comfortable in new surroundings. We feel the transition went really well considering the circumstances of a very quick move."
Approximately 50 people were moved including staff and patients.
The damage is currently being assessed and there is no time table for a return to the CCCA.
