The search for Morgan Harrington is moving in a different direction. Her family is working with representatives from the Laura Recovery Center, an organization based in Texas, to search for Morgan.
The Laura Recovery Center for Missing Children was created by a man who's daughter was kidnapped and murdered. Now, the organization, along with Virginia State Police and dedicated community volunteers, will start scouring areas of Charlottesville in an emotionally charged fight to find Morgan.
Valley resident Nakia Robinson has been drawn to Morgan's mysterious case since it first made news almost three weeks ago. She'll be working closely with other volunteers to help find Morgan.
"I don't know whether something happened that night and she fell and hasn't been found, or somebody kidnapped her. You know, you don't know," says Robinson.
The last time Morgan was seen was October 17 when she went to a Metallica concert in Charlottesville.
Robinson says it's just eerie because her nephew was at that very same concert.
"It's scary, it's actually very scary, because you realize how close it hits to home and it could happen anywhere," says Robinson.
As temperatures fall and time remains on the opposing side of the search, Robinson says assisting with this process is something that simply needs to be done.
"I just feel compelled to go. There's so much information, but yet there's a lack of information and I just want to be there, I want to be part of it," says Robinson.
Dan and Gil Harrington hope public appeals with victims of similar instances and the six-figure reward will help bring their missing daughter home.
This search effort will run until Sunday. The Harringtons will join volunteers on the hunt for their daughter, who they say needs to come home.
People interested in volunteering to help with the search are asked to call 434-960-0401. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and must bring valid drivers licenses or other state-issued identification.
Volunteers must register at the command center headquartered at the Department of Forestry at 900 Natural Resources Drive in Charlottesville. Searches will take place Saturday and Sunday, beginning at 9 a.m.
Virginia State Police are still looking for information in Morgan's disappearance. Anyone with such information is asked to call 434-352-3467.
