A man wanted on drug charges in California was captured in Virginia early Tuesday morning.

A Warren County Sheriff's deputy pulled over a Cadillac with Washington, D.C. tags for defective equipment on Interstate 66.

The driver initially identified himself as Earl Walker, but the California identification card he showed the deputy appeared inconsistent with such cards.

After further questioning, during which the driver could not answer basic questions about himself, the California Highway Patrol was contacted and the deputy was told the card could be fictitious.

The driver was arrested and taken to the Warren County Jail where he was questioned further.

During that questioning and investigation, officials learned the driver's name is Thomas Rufus Williams of Los Angeles.

He faces charges of transporting and distributing dangerous drugs in California and has also been charged with providing a false identification to a law enforcement officer and possession of a fictitious driver's license in Virginia.

Williams is being held without bond, awaiting extradition to California.
