As a part of Epilepsy Awareness Month, the local Epilepsy Foundation of Virginia held an awareness stroll and gathering Saturday at James Madison University.
About 18 people took part in the event.
After a one mile walk, participants listened to two speakers and talked with one another about the disease.
This year the organization is focusing on hiring people with epilepsy.
"Just so people know, there's about 1,100 people in Rockingham County affected by epilepsy. It's still kind of a disease that nobody wants to talk about. So the more that we can get out and spread the word, the better it is for those people," says organizer Gina Washington.
The foundation had a lot of prizes donated from local organizations for the raffle. The event brought in more than $600 for the cause.
