A man convicted of a Shenandoah County murder has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Shenandoah County Circuit Court Judge Dennis Hupp sentenced Jody Bradley Wednesday, following a jury's recommendation.
The 47 year old was convicted in August of second-degree murder for shooting and killing his daughter's 16-year-old boyfriend, Brendon Barker.
The trial jury recommended Jody serve nine years for second-degree murder and three years for use of a firearm in commission of a murder.
Jody admitted to shooting Brendon back in January, but says he thought the teenager was an intruder.
Jody's daughter, Sarah Bradley, says she was in the attic of her father's house with Brendon.
When she heard her dad at the base of the attic stairs she came down to see him. It was then she found out a hamper had been put in front of the door, blocking the teens in the attic.
She says, when the door finally opened, her father was shocked to see her. Sarah says, when her father went upstairs and found Barker hiding behind some boxes in the attic, he shot him and then went back downstairs.
Sarah says she then called out to her boyfriend who didn't respond. When she found him, he was laying on his back with a gun shot wound to his forehead.
Sarah called 911 to report the shooting, and Jody told dispatch operators he shot an intruder.

I do know the full story, and Jodie knew who was in the attic. It was just an excuse to shoot the boy - he threatened his life before. As for the kids, they were doing what kids will do - if you tell a teenager they can't see someone, you may as well wave a red flag. Jodie should have been willing to work with the boy's family to come to an agreement on when they could see each other under supervision.
I feel that he should have gotten more time for that. That was just cold blooded murder.on the other hand if our judicial system wasn't so money driven and a little more selective on who they acually jail, maybe they could have had the room for him to spend the time in jail that he should have. For example how many are in jail/prison for marijuana which has been medically proven to be safer than alcohol and cigarettes?Seems we have all the room in the world for these so called terrible people, but very little room for someone who would gun down a teenager.
