Dominion Virginia Power and Home Depot are offering a program that gives customers a discount on energy-saving light bulbs.
Dominion says the program has already sold enough compact fluorescent light bulbs statewide to power more than 70,000 homes and save $150 million.
Workers at Home Depot in Waynesboro say, since the program began, they have seen a dramatic increase in customers interested in buying the energy-saving bulbs.
"I've spent a lot of time with customers explaining the difference, how much lower their energy costs will be. Because a 60 watt bulb uses 14 watts of power to get a 60 watt equivalent, people can save a lot of money," says Carl Beckerdite, a Home Depot employee.
The Harrisonburg Electric Commission currently doesn't offer a similar program with Home Depot in Harrisonburg, but says it might consider something in the future.
