Several groups opposed to a new coal-fired power plant in Wise County planned to hold a march and rally Monday in downtown Richmond.

A group called the Southern Appalachian Mountain Stewards organized the rally.

They say the protesters will march from the headquarters of Massey Energy to Dominion Energy.

SAMS says the plant will lead to more mountaintop removal mining in Appalachia, and that a coal-fired plant will add pollutants to the air.

It's time to stop sacrificing Appalachian Mountain communities for dirty, polluting energy. It's time for companies like Massey and Dominion to switch to renewables, stop destroying the mountains, and stop polluting. Massey is being sued by the US government for up to $2.4 billion for over 4000 Clean Water Act violations. These outlaw corporations keep plundering, and the government keeps enabling them.
