A Fort Defiance High School case of bullying has become a felony.
The mother of a high school bullying victim, Janese Manning, says, "While my son was unconscious, I saw this boy straddle him and beat him, I don't know how many times. I couldn't even count them."
More than a dozen stitches and a broken nose and eye socket were what Fort Defiance junior Adam Casey suffered after an alleged bully crossed the line.
Casey says Jamar Coleman, a fellow Fort Defiance student, has been threatening him for years.
Casey says, "He's been sending me threats, sending people to talk to me. Telling me that he's going to beat me up."
On Wednesday afternoon, things appear to have gone too far.
Casey says that he was warned that Coleman wanted to fight him. That's when he turned around. He was pushed three times until he was shoved to the floor and knocked unconscious.
Casey says, "It's not a good thing what happened to me, but the outcome of it is going to make me a whole lot more of a stronger person and pull all of my friends together."
To dispel other rumors, Casey made it clear that the fight broke out because of past differences.
He also hopes that action will be taken to prevent cases of bullying from happening again.
"I really would hate for someone else to go through what I'm going through. I mean it, mentally and physically. It's driving me nuts," says Casey.
Manning says, "Take the bullies if they are bullying, give them three strikes. If they mess up three times, then they're out of there. Why should my son have to fear going to school because he's scared someone might bully him."
Several attempts to reach Coleman were unsuccessful.
Augusta County Superintendent Dr. Gary McQuain says Coleman has been expelled from school and will go in front of the discipline committee at a later date.
He says the school board has a firm stance against bullying and to protect its students at all times.
Augusta County deputies say they normally let schools handle bullying cases, but because this beating is considered a felony offense, they had to get involved.
Coleman was arrested Wednesday and has since been released on a $2,500 bond.

Although you may have a small point, what would you have done if you were in Jamar's situation of being taunted be the color of your skin? and don't say, "I would have talked it out".In today society, not just schools, it is almost an instinct to lash out if you are being hurt emotionally. And, if you make rude remarks about others, and you can't stand up for yourself and what might be coming, you should just keep to yourself. My answer: Rae, my grandson is biracial and has been bullied from the moment he started school. Called China Boy and Wing Wong and kids going up to him and pulling their eyes up to taunt him. The difference is the school addressed it immediately and my grandson didn't have to almost kill another kid to "protect" himself. He CHOSE at age EIGHT to stand up by standing back. He will always be a target... this is the USA where we love to have targets. But he will triumph by being successful in life.
its amazing that ignorant people get on here and jamar was the victim ive been picked on all my life for bein overwieght ive never sucker punched no one for it and then beat them while thet were unconcious and yes god does forgive you but he want always keep you out of jail it is done but not over
It is picnic time in schools for bulling. The bullies can get by with bulling all they want because the wimp government officials with the laws they past makes it all possible. Putting a hold on parents to raise their children how the parents themselves were raised has turned this notion of learning upside down. Children now has no mentor to what is right from what is wrong to learn from. The liberals of government and of education has tied the hands of common sense learning. So while the bullies are having a picnic picking on others, the liberals are knocking their pea brains out in trying to find a way to stop the bulling by wanting more laws to take away the common sense learning from parents and from teachers. What needs to be done is to strip away the liberal created laws and bring back the common sense of letting the parents and teachers take the action needed to teach children right from wrong. Instead of making laws of what is wrong to do for parents and for teachers.
