Rest Stops Flooded With Stranded Interstate Truck Drivers

The Assistant Manager of Harrisonburg Travel Center reported more than 400 trucks parked at the travel center Friday and Saturday.

Drivers began to double parking along Route 11 because there was not room left in the travel center lot.

Drivers say that the lack of room has created problems for them, like being able to trucks to the gas pumps.

One truck has several thousand dollars in damage because of another driver slid into the side of his tractor trailer.

Trucker, Joey Evans says, "Some years you don't have any of it and you miss it all and other years this is the third one that we've been in."

The Virginia Department of Transportation will call ahead to see how many spots are available at truck stops along I-81 so truckers can plan ahead.

The Assistant Manager of Harrisonburg Travel Center said drivers will call on their own if they have stopped there before and she said that did happen Friday and Saturday.
