An old ladder truck has been with the Harrisonburg Fire Department since 1954, but it looks as good as new, thanks to many donations from the community.
It has a new paint job. On Thursday, Harrisonburg companies Sign Pro and Backstreet Customs put decals on the truck that match the original decals from 1954.
"A fire department that has a piece of its history, such as we have with this is very fortunate. You don't find trucks built like this. You can look at the body designs and say, 'Boy that's neat the way that thing looks.' And it is," says Harrisonburg Fire Department chief Larry Shifflett.
The truck is out of fire fighting service, but it's fully operational and will be used in educational events and parades.
