Area horse farmers are losing business as a result of heavy rainfall.

Christie Meek of Staunton gives riding lessons as a full time job. She says she's only been able to teach for one week since the beginning of the year.

With all the snow and now the rain, she says the ring is just too messy for riders and can be unsafe for the horses.

Meek says parents have even called begging her to open up, but until the rain stops, she's going to have to keep canceling.

"I'm ready to get back into riding and getting all the horses on a regular schedule and the kids on a regular schedule and you miss them too. You miss the riding students if you haven't seen them for a month because usually you seen them on a week to week basis," says Meek.

She plans on opening up a week after the rain stops and the ground dries up a bit.
