An Impeyan Pheasant, an exotic bird that is native to China, escaped in Staunton Saturday.
The bird took flight when a man from North Carolina was trying to sell it and six other exotic birds to another man from New Jersey.
Augusta County Sheriff's Deputy Don Moran noticed suspicious activity on Richmond Road near the Interstate 81 corridor. The two men were searching for the escaped bird.
Both men were issued citations for not having the proper permits to carry or sell the birds in the state of Virginia.
