Looking for SUV Driver After Winchester Teen Hit

Updated: Thu 3:06 PM, Mar 18, 2010

A Winchester family is asking for help to find a vehicle after a hit-and-run crash.

Thirteen-year-old Tracy Peterson's family says the boy was hit by an SUV that then drove away.

Witnesses say Peterson was walking on Berryville Avenue around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when he was hit.

Two friends who were walking with Tracy witnessed the crash.

They say it was a black SUV.

Tracy's family says he was knocked unconscious.

After several tests, doctors determined he has a fractured pelvis, bladder bleeding and brain bruising.

Sommer Peterson, Tracy's cousin, asks the public to help find the person who was driving the SUV.

She says, "If anybody has seen anything on Berryville Avenue around 7:30 p.m., if they saw a car or SUV zooming out, if they actually saw the accident."

The Peterson family says Tracy will be flown to the University of Virginia Medical Center for specialized care.

Anyone with information on this incident should call the Winchester Police Department at 540-662-4131.
