The two largest cities in our part of the Valley have both seen the same thing: a lot of shoplifting.
In Harrisonburg, police say two women were caught stealing clothing from Belk Friday. The same day, another woman was caught trying to steal jewelry from JCPenney. Wal-Mart had two shoplifting cases in the past week, and police say an underage man tried to steal beer from Kroger Saturday.
In Staunton, police arrested a woman for allegedly shoplifting from Pets N Pals Monday. They also arrested a woman for trying to steal liquor from an ABC store on State Street Tuesday, and they are still searching for a shoplifter that stole steaks from Food Lion Tuesday.
Staunton police have also made an arrest in a hit-and-run case. They say a drunk driver ran into another vehicle, injuring an elderly woman on Orange Street Friday. Then police say James Ken Alphin Jr. ran into a telephone pole. Police say they arrested Alphin while he was trying to leave the scene.
Deputies in Shenandoah County have arrested two men who they say stole two cars in Edinburg and sold them for salvage. Kelly Shafer and Mark Wood are accused of stealing the cars from a home on Grand Staff Lane earlier this month.
A resident near Verona reports that someone stole $421 of gas from his property Monday. The gas containers were taken from under a tarp at a home on Willow Spout Road.
