The Harrisonburg Fire Department will be installing 200 carbon monoxide detectors for the community free of charge.
The detectors are first come, first serve. They will be installed only in homes that meet certain requirements.
Carbon monoxide is often called a silent killer. It is a colorless and odorless gas that can cause death if a person is exposed to too much.
The Harrisonburg Fire Department believes that having a carbon monoxide detector is just as important as having a smoke detector.
To get a carbon monoxide detector installed free of charge, call 540-432-7703.
